QWR Partners with Kaynes Technology to Build India’s First Integrated XR and Waveguide Manufacturing Hub

QWR Interactive Solutions, a Pune-based deep-tech XR and AI wearables company, has entered into a partnership with Kaynes Technology India Limited to establish India’s first integrated hub for waveguide and XR device manufacturing.

This collaboration aims to design and produce advanced AR and VR headsets and smart glasses domestically, reducing import dependence by up to 50 percent and generating over 1,000 skilled jobs by 2027. Under this partnership, QWR will serve as the independent design house and original design manufacturer, contributing intellectual property, product designs, and calibration protocols.

“With Kaynes, we’re building deep-tech infrastructure that fuses design, waveguides, and device manufacturing – giving India full-stack ownership of the XR value chain,” said Suraj Aiar, Founder and CEO of QWR. The upcoming facility near Mysore will feature a state-of-the-art waveguide factory built to high cleanroom standards, along with advanced assembly, testing, marking, and packaging units. Over the next 16 months, QWR plans to increase localisation from 25 percent to nearly 85 percent through technology transfer and new tooling capabilities.

Himanshu Verma, Head of AI XR Business at Kaynes Technology, added, “This collaboration enables global-grade hardware to be built in India while also training a new generation of engineers and technicians.”

Together, QWR and Kaynes aim to establish the only end-to-end XR manufacturing ecosystem outside China. The partnership will begin with AR and VR headsets and later expand into AI-powered smart glasses for sectors such as defence, education, enterprise training, and industrial applications. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance India’s position in global technology innovation and exports while promoting self-reliance in high-end manufacturing.
