Qualcomm launches FastConnect 8800 and Dragonwing Wi-Fi 8 platforms with 11.6Gbps speeds

In a major push toward next-generation connectivity, Qualcomm has introduced its latest AI-ready solutions, including the FastConnect 8800 and new Dragonwing Wi-Fi 8 platforms.

The key highlight is the Qualcomm FastConnect 8800 Mobile Connectivity System. It is the first mobile system to feature a 4×4 Wi-Fi radio setup. The platform can deliver peak speeds of up to 11.6Gbps, which is 2x faster than its predecessor.

The FastConnect 8800 offers up to 3x the gigabit range compared to the previous generation. It combines Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn), Bluetooth 7, Ultra Wideband (802.15.4ab), and Thread 1.5 into a single chip built on a 6nm process node for better efficiency and integration.

It also introduces Bluetooth High Data Throughput, increasing speeds from 2Mbps to 7.5Mbps. This improvement supports better audio quality, faster file transfers, and smoother multi-device usage.

Another key feature is Proximity AI. It brings together Wi-Fi Ranging, Bluetooth Channel Sounding, UWB, and GPS to enable accurate interaction with nearby devices. This can help users locate misplaced earbuds or smart tags more easily.

The new system is a significant upgrade over older premium Wi-Fi models that offered speeds of up to 5.8Gbps but did not include these advanced features.

Qualcomm also launched its Dragonwing Wi-Fi 8 Networking Platforms. These are designed to power AI-enabled routers, gateways, and enterprise access points.

The Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite features a 5×5 Wi-Fi 8 radio system. It increases throughput by up to 40% at standard distances and reduces daily energy consumption by up to 30% compared to the previous generation.

All Wi-Fi 8 solutions are currently in the sampling stage. Commercial devices powered by these platforms are expected to be available by late 2026.

This development marks a major step forward in connectivity, offering faster speeds, wider range, and improved energy efficiency for users worldwide.
