QpiAI unveils India’s most powerful quantum chip ‘Kaveri’

India has achieved a major milestone in quantum technology as Bengaluru-based QpiAI unveiled Kaveri, a 64-qubit superconducting quantum chip, marking the most powerful quantum processor ever developed in the country. The launch took place at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave in Delhi, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, symbolising a defining moment in India’s deep-tech progress.

The Kaveri chip is set for commercial release by the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to transform quantum computing applications in fields such as cryptography, optimisation, and machine learning. Following the success of QpiAI’s earlier 25-qubit processor, Indus, the Kaveri 64 demonstrates India’s growing strength in building advanced indigenous quantum technologies.

“This is not just an achievement for QpiAI, but a proud moment for India and its scientific community,” said Nagendra Nagaraja, Founder and CEO of QpiAI.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi announced the RDI scheme to enhance the private sector’s research and development ecosystem. He stressed the government’s commitment to promoting the “ease of doing research” and advancing the journey from “lab to market.”

Highlighting India’s rapid progress in science and technology, the Prime Minister noted that the country’s research and development spending has doubled over the past decade, while the number of patents has increased seventeenfold. He affirmed that India is emerging as a “pioneer of transformation through technology,” with growing leadership in areas such as quantum computing, green hydrogen, and artificial intelligence.
