In a swift and effective action, Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore recovered ₹1.64 lakh and handed it back to a cybercrime victim, Prathipati Srinivas Rao, from Kaikalur in Eluru district on Monday.
Mr. Srinivas Rao, a resident of Taamarakollu village in Kaikalur mandal, lost the money on May 13, 2025, after clicking on a suspicious link received on his mobile phone. The cybercriminals immediately withdrew ₹1.64 lakh from his account. Acting quickly, Mr. Srinivas Rao froze his account by contacting his bank and lodged a complaint at Kaikalur Town police station.
Based on the complaint, Kaikalur Circle Police Inspector Krishna alerted the cybercrime team. The officers traced the transaction trail and successfully recovered the entire amount from the fraudsters’ bank accounts, said Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Sravan Kumar.
SP K. Pratap Shiva Kishore emphasized the importance of public awareness about online fraud. He advised people not to click on unknown links or respond to suspicious messages, calls, or OTPs. “If the victims approach the police and the bank officials immediately, investigation officers will respond quickly, get more leads related to the offence and can detect the online frauds,” he said.
He also urged citizens to dial 1930 immediately if they suspect any fraudulent activity or have lost money through online scams.
