Telangana’s Cyber Crime Police have launched a major operation targeting film piracy, uncovering what officials describe as one of the largest networks leaking new Telugu films. Recent raids revealed operations spanning Hyderabad, Dubai, the Netherlands, and Myanmar, with illegal uploads appearing on websites such as iBomma and Movierulz.
According to authorities, the piracy ring recorded newly released films on mobile devices, added watermarks, and uploaded content to illegal sites almost immediately, sometimes even before official release dates. In some cases, full HD versions appeared online ahead of schedule, including the film Sikander. The pirated content was then distributed through Telegram groups, WhatsApp, social media, and hacked satellite feeds.
Cyber police said the network operates like a business, with specialized teams handling recording, editing, uploading, and monetisation. Some groups reportedly have the technical ability to crack digital drives and extract content directly from satellite streams, coordinating across countries to maintain operations.
The cyber police have identified multiple gangs operating domestically and internationally, building on earlier arrests. Earlier this year, the interrogation of an individual named Kiran helped expose parts of the wider syndicate.
Authorities have urged audiences to avoid illegal streaming and support the Telugu film industry by watching movies only in theatres or through legal OTT platforms. Police warned that film piracy is punishable by law, with potential fines and imprisonment.
With several major film releases upcoming, Telangana’s Cyber Crime Police stated that surveillance will continue and efforts to dismantle piracy networks will be intensified.
