Pocket FM Rolls Out AI Writing Tool To Boost Audio Series Production

India-based audio platform Pocket FM, which aims to become the “Netflix of audio,” is introducing a new AI-powered writing tool called CoPilot to speed up content creation and make stories more engaging. The company, backed by major investors, wants to deliver hundreds of episodes tailored to user preferences while releasing content at a faster pace.

CoPilot offers writers a range of features, from suggesting alternative endings to transforming narrative text into dialogue for specific segments. It can perform “beat analysis” to adapt writing for different audio genres, suggest background sound effects, and recommend ways to increase conflict between characters. Writers can also use it to generate character bios, summarise past episodes, and maintain plot consistency.

Pocket FM says it studied thousands of hours of data to identify what keeps listeners engaged and built those insights into CoPilot. The tool includes basic writing functions like “shorten” and “expand” and can give qualitative feedback on episodes by checking plot points and grammar.

Alongside this, the company has developed adaptation tools for different markets. These tools translate stories, adjust names and phrases to suit local cultures, and have already helped the platform reduce the time needed to launch in new countries from over a year to less than three months. In Germany, the tool increased writer productivity by 50 percent and boosted monthly in-app revenue past 700,000 dollars in June.

In the United States, AI-assisted series now make up 10 percent of total playtime, generating 7 million dollars in the last year while cutting production costs by up to three times. Pocket FM produces around 1,000 pilots each month, increasing the chances of creating hit shows.

The company plans to launch its own large language model next year to integrate all its AI features without relying on multiple smaller models. However, the adoption of AI has led to layoffs of employees and contractors over the past year. Some writers have also seen reduced earnings, and concerns remain over potential “AI slop” lowering content quality.

Pocket FM maintains that AI tools act as a creative partner for writers, helping them refine work faster without compromising on quality. It says all content is reviewed by AI-powered moderation to ensure originality, copyright compliance, and user engagement before release.
