PM Narendra Modi to host India AI Impact Summit with global tech leaders

India is set to take centre stage in the global artificial intelligence conversation with a major international gathering scheduled in February.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the India AI Impact Summit and host a gala dinner for global technology leaders during the event scheduled from February 15 to 20. The summit has confirmed participation from leading global CEOs including Bill Gates and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.

Senior government officials said Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff have also confirmed their presence. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is expected to attend the summit as well.

India has formally invited China to participate in the event, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan told reporters on December 29. The summit is being positioned as a key platform to advance India’s effort to “democratise AI”.

The government expects participation from more than 100 countries, with invitations sent to 140 nations. Over 100 AI leaders, including CEOs, CXOs, and chief scientists, are expected to attend the main sessions.

Krishnan said the Prime Minister will inaugurate the AI Impact Expo on February 16. A gala dinner for visiting global leaders is scheduled for February 18. Modi is also expected to inaugurate the formal opening ceremony of the summit on February 19 and attend both the leaders plenary and a CEO roundtable on the same day.

A ministerial meeting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence is planned for February 20. Other confirmed attendees include Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam, along with several global technology founders and academics.

According to the government, more than 50 CEOs and founders and over 100 senior academics have already confirmed participation. Ahead of the main summit, an innovation festival will be held from February 15 at Central Park in Connaught Place as a public event showcasing creative and social applications of artificial intelligence.

During the summit week, nearly 800 parallel AI related events are expected to be organised across the country. Officials said more than 150,000 people are likely to attend events linked to the summit, including the expo. The summit process has already seen over 310 preparatory events conducted over the past 140 days.

Several global reports and deliverables will also be released. AI pioneer Yoshua Bengio is preparing a scientific report for presentation at the summit, while the International Energy Agency and UN Women are working on separate outputs focused on AI in energy systems and gender empowerment.
