At a key policy interaction in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior leaders from India’s artificial intelligence sector to discuss steps to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s residence ahead of the IndiaAI Impact Summit scheduled for February.
Chief executives from major technology firms, including Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech, Zoho Corporation, LTI Mindtree, Jio Platforms, AdaniConnex, Nxtra Data, and Netweb Technologies, took part in the discussion. They expressed support for the government’s push toward self-reliance in AI and highlighted India’s growing position in global technology, driven by policy support and digital infrastructure.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to build an AI ecosystem that is transparent, unbiased, and secure. He underlined the importance of ethical AI use and said innovation must be balanced with responsibility. Data protection and fair access to technology were also highlighted as key priorities. Modi added that building skills and developing talent in AI would be essential for expanding India’s capabilities.
Referring to India’s success with the Unified Payments Interface, Modi said the country’s digital model could guide AI innovation as well. He encouraged wider use of indigenous technologies across critical sectors. According to him, India’s scale, diversity, and democratic values place it in a strong position to build global trust in digital transformation.
Union IT Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jitin Prasada were present at the meeting. Experts from IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, and IIT Bombay also joined the discussion, contributing views on research, innovation, and talent development.
The interaction focused on aligning government policy with industry efforts to create a secure and inclusive AI framework. It also aimed to ensure that India’s national AI mission supports innovation while protecting public interest.
With the IndiaAI Impact Summit approaching, the dialogue reflects the government’s intent to involve industry and academic leaders in shaping a responsible and future-ready AI strategy for the country.
