Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched ‘Mumbai One’, India’s first integrated common mobility app, enabling commuters to book a single QR-based digital ticket that can be used across Metro, Monorail, buses, and suburban trains in Mumbai and its surrounding regions.
Developed for the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Mumbai One eliminates the need for multiple paper tickets or separate bookings across different transport systems. The app will be available for download from 5 am on Thursday, officials confirmed. However, season or return tickets for suburban trains will not be available through the app.
Launching the app during the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3, Prime Minister Modi said, “Every mode of transport is being connected with other modes, and efforts are being made to make travelling seamless so that no one is forced to struggle while switching from one service to another. Today, the country is moving towards the vision of One Nation, One Mobility. The Mumbai One App is another step in that direction. Now Mumbaikars will no longer have to stand in long queues for tickets.”
The app allows commuters to plan and book journeys across 11 public transport operators, including the suburban railways, Mumbai Metro Lines 1, 2A, 3 and 7, Navi Mumbai Metro, Monorail, and bus services operated by BEST, Thane Municipal Transport (TMT), Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT) and Mira Bhayander Municipal Transport (MBMT).
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Mumbai One will not impose additional user charges, as all operational costs will be borne by the authority. The app supports cashless and contactless payments, featuring a trilingual interface in Marathi, Hindi, and English. It also includes commuter safety options such as “Share My Location”, an emergency helpline, and a city guide listing tourist attractions, restaurants, and cultural hubs.
Mumbai One also features a multimodal journey planner that suggests the fastest and most cost-effective routes, offering real-time information on service updates and route availability. Hosted on a MeitY-compliant Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and powered by Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), the system is designed for high scalability, security, and performance. MMRDA stated that the platform can handle up to 50 lakh transactions per day and aims to grow its user base from 10 lakh to 50 lakh within a year.
