Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has stated that the company’s new AI browser, Comet, could soon automate two major roles present in nearly every workplace: recruiters and administrative assistants. Speaking in a recent interview, Srinivas explained that Comet’s built-in AI agent can interact with tools like Gmail, LinkedIn, and Google Calendar to simplify and automate complex tasks across departments.
“A recruiter’s work worth one week is just one prompt: sourcing and reach outs,” he said, highlighting how the AI can generate candidate lists, find contact information, and send personalised emails. He also gave examples where Comet identifies specific candidates, such as Stanford alumni who have worked at Anthropic, organises their details in Google Sheets, and drafts tailored outreach messages. These tasks are typically managed by recruiting coordinators and sourcers.
The AI browser is currently in invite-only beta access for premium users.
Beyond recruitment, Comet is also designed to take over administrative functions. According to Srinivas, the browser can manage emails, coordinate calendars, prepare meetings, and handle ongoing follow-ups. “It can keep following up, keep track of responses, update Google Sheets, mark status as responded or in progress, sync with Google Calendar, and resolve conflicts to schedule meetings,” he added.
Srinivas believes Comet will eventually evolve into a full AI operating system, running background tasks and executing user instructions through simple prompts. He suggested that businesses may be willing to invest heavily for such capabilities, even saying, “People might spend $2,000 for a prompt” if it delivers high value.
The conversation reflects broader discussions in the tech industry around AI’s impact on white-collar employment. While Srinivas and others, like CEOs from Anthropic and Ford, have warned of significant job disruptions, other leaders see AI as more of a support tool. Despite differing opinions, Srinivas concluded with a strong statement: “People who are at the frontier of using AI are going to be way more employable than people who are not.”
