Moving beyond single-model AI chats, Perplexity AI has introduced Perplexity Computer, a new multi-model AI workflow system aimed at handling complex research and task execution. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
According to the company, Perplexity Computer is designed to streamline how users collect information, analyse data, and produce actionable insights. Unlike traditional chat-based AI tools, the system allows multiple AI models to work together within a single environment, enabling deeper reasoning and structured outputs.
Perplexity Computer is described as an AI-driven workflow platform that combines several large language models and tools into one unified interface. Instead of relying on a single model, the system dynamically switches between models depending on the task. The company said the service is built for advanced use cases such as research, document analysis, multi-step reasoning, and report creation.
The system can break down complex queries into smaller tasks, assign them to specialised AI models, and then merge the results into a structured response. This approach is intended to deliver higher efficiency and accuracy compared to single-model interactions.
Built on Perplexity’s existing web search capabilities, the new system retains its ability to find and reference information directly from the web. By layering multiple models and workflows, Perplexity Computer is positioned as a long-form research assistant rather than a short conversation tool.
When users submit complex requests such as market studies, technical analysis, or document summaries, the system analyses the task and distributes different steps across multiple AI models. Key features include multi-model coordination, structured workflow execution, integrated web research with citations, document uploads for deep analysis, and task chaining for multi-step reasoning and report generation.
Perplexity Computer is available starting today on the web for Max plan subscribers. Pricing follows a usage-based credit system. Max subscribers receive 10,000 credits per month, along with a one-time bonus of 20,000 credits.
Bonus credits are also being offered at launch for existing users and at signup for new customers. These credits will expire after 30 days. To help users manage usage, the platform includes controls such as model selection for sub-tasks and limits on token spending.
Support for Pro and Enterprise plans is expected to launch shortly.
