Periasamy Kumaran takes charge as India’s new High Commissioner to the UK

In a significant diplomatic move, Periasamy Kumaran has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, reinforcing India’s focus on strengthening global partnerships.

A 1992 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, Kumaran is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He is expected to assume his new role shortly.

He will succeed Vikram Doraiswami, who has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to China.

Kumaran brings extensive diplomatic experience, having served in multiple international assignments and held key positions within the Ministry of External Affairs. His career reflects deep expertise in global diplomacy, policy and international relations.

His appointment comes at a time when India–UK ties are expanding across trade, technology and strategic collaboration. As High Commissioner, he is expected to play a key role in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing India’s strategic interests in the region.
