In a key push to strengthen domestic telecom manufacturing, Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani this week met leading Indian telecom OEMs to review their participation in major projects across the country.
“Held constructive discussions with leading Indian telecom manufacturers today on their participation in key telecom projects across the country,” Pemmasani said on microblogging platform X on Wednesday.
The meeting brought together homegrown original equipment manufacturers, including the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT). Discussions focused on operational challenges, project requirements, and growth priorities.
“…many of these companies have made significant contributions in designing, developing, and manufacturing cutting-edge technologies,” Pemmasani said. He added that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government remains firmly committed to strengthening Make in India in telecom and building a robust, self-reliant manufacturing ecosystem.
During the meeting held on Tuesday, C-DoT presented its C-TARANG radio access network (RAN) solution. The platform supports 4G and 5G non-standalone (NSA) networks.
Robert J Ravi, CMD, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), was also present.
A Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium, which includes Tejas Networks and C-DoT, is currently deploying an indigenous 4G network for BSNL across 1,00,000 sites nationwide.
“In line with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative, BSNL has ordered 1,00,000 indigenously developed 4G sites for pan-India deployment; out of these, 97,672 sites are installed, and 95,511 are on air as of January 15, 2026,” the Ministry of Communications said in a recent statement.
These sites are 5G upgradable from a technology perspective.
