Eric Migicovsky, the original creator of the Pebble smartwatch, has revealed the final design and specifications for the upcoming Pebble Time 2.
Earlier this year, the new models were announced under the names Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. However, Migicovsky confirmed that his company has regained the Pebble trademark, allowing the watches to be officially named Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2.
The updated Pebble Time 2 features a redesigned look along with several new additions. Buyers will have the chance to choose from four colour options, which are yet to be finalised. New features include a multicolour RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for possible environmental noise cancellation, a built-in compass sensor, and a screw-mounted back cover. The watch will have stainless steel on both the front and back, with stainless steel buttons similar to the Pebble Time Steel.
The device will retain previously announced specifications such as a 1.5-inch 64-colour e-paper display with touch support, a quick-release 22 mm strap, a flat hardened glass lens, an estimated 30-day battery life, heart rate monitoring, step and sleep tracking, a speaker, vibration motor, and water resistance, with the exact rating to be confirmed.
Available now for preorder at 225 dollars, the Pebble Time 2 connects to smartphones via Bluetooth, enabling notifications, music control, and internet access.
The company has also provided an upgrade option for those who preordered the Core 2 Duo. Customers can switch to the Pebble Time 2 without losing their place in the queue by waiting for an upcoming email survey, rather than cancelling their original order.
