In a move aimed at improving convenience and security, Paytm has introduced biometric authentication for UPI transactions, allowing users to make payments and withdraw cash using fingerprint or Face ID instead of entering a UPI PIN.
This update comes in line with the push by the Reserve Bank of India to enhance transaction security. The company clarified that biometric data remains stored on the user’s device, ensuring safer transactions.
With this feature, users can make payments, check account balances, and even withdraw cash at select ATMs by scanning a QR code and verifying through biometrics, without needing a physical card.
UPI transactions using biometrics are capped at ₹5,000 per transaction. For cardless ATM withdrawals, the limit is generally up to ₹10,000, depending on the bank.
The feature is available on both Android and iOS devices, and users can link multiple bank accounts for seamless usage.
In a similar move, Razorpay is also rolling out biometric authentication for card payments, further strengthening the security of digital transactions in India.
This development marks another step toward making digital payments faster, simpler, and more secure for users across the country.
