Panna Police Bust Global Cyber Fraud Racket, Seize 1,700 SIM Cards

Panna police have dismantled an international cyber fraud racket, arresting two individuals from Maharashtra and seizing a massive cache of 1,700 SIM cards intended for use in scams operating from abroad. The arrests followed an intensive investigation that spanned across state lines.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rishikesh alias Rishabh Harsurkar, 27, from Kolhapur, and Suresh Gudimani, 31, from Chikodi district. Both were apprehended from Urabano apartment in Thane, Maharashtra, in a targeted operation by the Panna police.

Investigations revealed that the duo was engaged in the illicit supply of Indian SIM cards to cyber fraudsters operating in Southeast Asian countries, specifically Thailand and Cambodia. These fraudsters were then using the Indian SIMs to target victims within India through a variety of fraudulent calls and schemes.

Police stated that the accused employed a relatively new and sophisticated method to procure such a large volume of SIM cards. They reportedly acquired these SIM cards in bulk by misusing shell companies that they owned, exploiting regulatory loopholes to facilitate their criminal enterprise.

The bust underscores the growing challenge of international cybercrime networks that leverage cross-border logistics and technological vulnerabilities to perpetrate frauds. The Panna police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of this racket and identify any further accomplices involved in the illegal procurement and supply chain of SIM cards for cyber fraud.
