Steer World has announced the appointment of Ovais Sarmad, former Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to its Advisory Board.
Sarmad brings with him more than thirty years of experience in climate policy, migration and global governance. At the UNFCCC, he played a key role in strengthening the implementation of the Paris Agreement and was actively engaged in major climate negotiations from COP23 to COP27. His contributions also included the creation and operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund.
Before joining the UNFCCC, he spent twenty seven years with the International Organisation for Migration, where he served in senior positions such as Chief of Staff and Director of Resource Management. During his time there, he was instrumental in driving institutional reforms and shaping global policies on migration.
A Chartered Management Accountant from the United Kingdom and a graduate of Osmania University in India, Sarmad currently serves as Vice Chair of the GHG Protocol Steering Committee. He also advises on sustainability, climate action and youth engagement initiatives.
