Morocco enters hyperscale cloud era with Oracle’s Casablanca region launch

Morocco has taken a major step in its digital journey as Oracle becomes the first hyperscaler to launch a public cloud region in North Africa.

The company announced the opening of its new Oracle Cloud region in Casablanca, marking its first full-scale cloud deployment in the region. The facility is hosted in partnership with N+ONE Datacenters.

The Casablanca region will enable organisations across Morocco—from startups to government bodies—to access Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for AI, analytics, and cloud computing capabilities.

“The opening of our cloud region in Casablanca is a major milestone in our commitment to supporting Morocco’s growth and its position as a regional hub for AI and digital innovation,” said Cormac Watters, executive vice president and general manager, Oracle EMEA. “With Oracle Cloud Casablanca Region, we are providing organizations across Morocco and North Africa with the secure, high-performance infrastructure they need to innovate with AI and the cloud, and to compete globally,” Watters added.

According to the company, the new region is designed to help both public and private organisations modernise applications, drive AI-led innovation, and improve business resilience.

The region also enables sovereign data hosting and processing within Morocco, allowing organisations to move on-premises workloads to OCI while meeting local regulatory requirements.

“This approach addresses sovereignty requirements and ensures compliance with regulations specific to the public, governmental, and highly regulated sectors,” Oracle said.

The Casablanca region will provide access to Oracle’s AI portfolio, including OCI AI Agent Platform, OCI Generative AI Service, and Oracle AI Data Platform.

This infrastructure supports Morocco’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, which aims to accelerate digital transformation and position the country as a regional technology hub. It will also help local startups and investors with AI development, training, and deployment.

Oracle has also announced plans to expand its footprint with a second public cloud region in Settat.

“Oracle is to help African customers meet a variety of requirements, from privacy and sovereign AI to low latency; it is the only hyperscaler capable of delivering over 200 cloud and AI services across a public cloud, customer data center, hybrid/edge, or multicloud deployment,” Oracle stated.
