OpenText Makes India Its Global Innovation Hub, Driving 70% of R&D from the Country

OpenText, a global enterprise software leader, is positioning India as the core hub for its research and development, with plans to drive 70% of its global innovation efforts from the country. With over 9,000 engineers based in India, the move reflects a growing trend of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) evolving from back-office operations to strategic innovation centers.

OpenText’s R&D teams in India focus on Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and information governance, creating solutions for enterprises worldwide. Products like the Aviator AI platform, largely developed in India, automate repetitive tasks, allowing teams to concentrate on high-value initiatives and product ownership.

Supporting more than 120,000 organizations globally, OpenText is helping GCCs transition from operational roles to innovation-driven strategic hubs. According to Manoj Nagpal, Managing Director of OpenText India, the company assists GCCs in:

  • Implementing AI-powered automation to streamline operations

  • Strengthening cybersecurity and compliance frameworks

  • Enhancing information governance for audit readiness and containerized deployments, even in Tier 2 cities.

These efforts position GCCs as vital contributors to global business strategy, rather than merely support units.

India’s GCC Ecosystem

India hosts over 1,800 GCCs generating $64.6 billion in revenue, with projections expected to exceed $100 billion soon. The availability of highly skilled technology talent enables multinational corporations like OpenText to centralize R&D and innovation in India. GCCs are increasingly involved in product development, digital transformation, and strategic business innovation for global operations.

Conclusion

OpenText’s strategy highlights India’s emergence as a global innovation hub. By leveraging Indian talent and technological expertise, companies are redefining GCCs from cost centers to strategic engines for research, development, and enterprise innovation. India is now at the forefront of driving global business technology and innovation initiatives.
