OpenAI has announced its entry into the hiring sector with the upcoming launch of the OpenAI Jobs Platform, expected by mid 2026. The platform is designed to connect companies with workers by “using AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer,” said Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI.
Simo explained that the service will also include a special track for small businesses and local governments to find AI talent. This expansion signals OpenAI’s broader ambitions beyond ChatGPT. At a recent dinner with reporters, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared that Simo will also manage other products in development, including a browser and a social media application.
In addition to the jobs platform, OpenAI will launch certifications in AI fluency through its OpenAI Academy, with a pilot scheduled for late 2025. The initiative comes in partnership with Walmart, aiming to certify 10 million Americans by 2030. Simo noted that while AI presents risks to the job market, such as the possibility of replacing up to half of entry level white collar jobs by 2030 as warned by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the company wants to prepare workers for the shift.
“While we can’t prevent that disruption, we can do our part by helping people become fluent in AI and connecting them with companies that need their skills,” Simo said. According to OpenAI, these initiatives align with its commitment to the White House’s goal of expanding AI literacy. The announcement comes ahead of a planned meeting between Sam Altman and other major technology leaders with President Donald Trump to discuss the future of AI.
