OpenAI and Meta Platforms had separately discussed possible collaborations to increase their artificial intelligence products in India with Reliance Industries, according to media reports.
According to the media, which quoted two people with knowledge of the situation, one alternative under discussion was a partnership between Reliance Jio and OpenAI to distribute ChatGPT.
OpenAI also talked with staff members about lowering the ChatGPT membership cost from $20 per month to as low as a few dollars. However, it’s unclear if OpenAI has brought up the topic of price reduction with Reliance, as per the reports.
It also stated that Reliance has talked about selling OpenAI’s models to its enterprise clients via an application programming interface, or API. The Mukesh Ambani-led company also talked about hosting and executing OpenAI models locally, allowing local clients’ data to remain in India.
Reliance has specifically talked about implementing the Meta and OpenAI concepts in a three-gigawatt data center that it intends to construct in the Gujarati city of Jamnagar. The business claims that this data center would be the largest in the world.
Regarding this story, Meta chose not to comment. Requests for comment on the story were not immediately answered by Reliance or OpenAI.
One of India’s biggest companies, Reliance Industries is involved in petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas exploration, retail, telecommunications, and green energy.
