A new report suggests that OpenAI is considering adding video generation features from its Sora AI model directly into ChatGPT. If implemented, the move could allow users to generate videos within the chatbot platform, expanding its existing AI capabilities.
According to a report by a publication, the San Francisco-based company is exploring plans to integrate Sora’s AI video technology into ChatGPT. Sources familiar with the matter reportedly said that the company could introduce this integration in the near future. However, the timeline for the release of this feature has not been disclosed.
The report also noted that the company plans to keep the Sora application and website operational even if video generation becomes available in ChatGPT. The development raises questions about how the feature might affect the adoption of the standalone Sora platform.
Sora has not yet been rolled out globally and is currently being introduced gradually in selected regions. Since ChatGPT already has a much larger user base, adding video generation to the chatbot could significantly increase user engagement on the platform. At the same time, it could reduce the need for users to access the dedicated Sora app or website.
Another key factor is the heavy computing power required for AI-based video generation. One of the reasons the Sora app was launched through an invitation-based rollout was due to server capacity concerns. With ChatGPT serving a much larger global audience, integrating video generation could create additional pressure on servers and increase operational costs.
To manage this, the company may consider restricting the feature to the Pro subscription tier or launching a separate subscription tier specifically for video generation. Another possibility could be a rise in subscription pricing. However, such pricing strategies may not be effective in price-sensitive markets such as India.
For now, these possibilities remain speculative. More details are expected if the company officially confirms plans to bring Sora’s video generation capabilities into ChatGPT.
