OpenAI hints at upcoming GPT-5.4 model shortly after GPT-5.3 Instant release

Artificial intelligence development at OpenAI appears to be moving rapidly, with the company teasing another model update just a day after launching a new version. The San Francisco-based AI firm recently signalled that the GPT-5.4 could arrive soon, marking one of the quickest teaser announcements following a major model release.

On Wednesday, the company posted a short message on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “5.4 sooner than you Think.” The statement hints at the upcoming release of the next major update in the GPT-5 series.

The teaser came only a day after the company rolled out GPT-5.3 Instant to all users of ChatGPT. The GPT-5.3 Instant model is designed as a general-purpose AI system and is available to users across all subscription tiers.

Unlike previous updates that focused heavily on multimodal features or coding improvements, GPT-5.3 Instant primarily targets better conversations and improved writing capabilities. According to the company, the model produces fewer disclaimers and maintains a better balance between information sourced from the web and its own reasoning.

The AI model is also said to deliver more “to-the-point” conversations and demonstrate a stronger understanding of emotionally complex writing or imaginative prompts.

Although the exact launch date for GPT-5.4 has not been confirmed, the timing of the teaser has attracted attention. The announcement comes amid reports suggesting that some users may be reconsidering their use of ChatGPT.

A website has claimed that around 2.5 million users intend to stop using the platform. The claim is based on individual pledges, social media posts, and app usage data. According to the same source, the potential user exit is linked to the company’s agreement with the United States Department of Defense, also known as the Pentagon, which allows the US government to use its technology for any lawful purpose.

Despite these discussions, the company has not officially confirmed whether the GPT-5.4 teaser is related to these reports. For now, the announcement simply indicates that another major AI model update could arrive in the near future.
