Creative workflows inside ChatGPT are getting a notable boost as OpenAI rolls out an upgraded version of ChatGPT Images, powered by its latest image model.
The update focuses on speed, accuracy, and control. According to OpenAI, the new model can generate images up to 4 times faster than earlier versions, making experimentation and iteration far smoother for users. It also improves how closely images match prompts, whether users are creating visuals from scratch or editing existing photos.
A major highlight is improved image editing. Users can now apply precise changes to uploaded images while keeping key details intact, such as lighting, composition, and facial features. This makes the tool useful for tasks like photo retouching, trying new hairstyles or outfits, and applying stylistic changes without losing realism.
The model supports a wide range of edits, including adding, removing, blending, combining, and repositioning elements. It also enables creative transformations, allowing images to be turned into posters, advertisements, illustrations, or other visual styles while preserving important details.
OpenAI has also strengthened the model’s ability to follow complex, multi step instructions. It now handles detailed layouts, dense text, and smaller fonts with greater clarity. This includes better support for structured designs, markdown style layouts, and infographics, expanding its use in visual communication.
To make image creation more accessible, ChatGPT now includes a dedicated Images section within the app. Found in the sidebar, it offers preset styles, trending prompts, and visual suggestions that reduce the need for detailed instructions. Users can also upload an image once and reuse it across projects for consistent visual storytelling.
The new ChatGPT Images model is rolling out globally and is available via the API as GPT Image 1.5. Business and Enterprise users will gain access to the full Images experience soon. Developers using the API will benefit from the same quality improvements and lower costs compared to earlier versions.
OpenAI noted that while image generation continues to evolve, with limitations around complex styles and multilingual text, this update represents a strong step forward in making ChatGPT Images a more powerful and practical creative tool.
