OpenAI has announced the acquisition of product development startup Statsig for 1.1 billion dollars, continuing its rapid expansion. Statsig enables companies, including OpenAI, to test new features and use real-time data for operations. As part of the deal, Statsig CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as technology chief in the applications unit, reporting to Fidji Simo, the former Instacart CEO who now leads OpenAI’s applications business.
“Working with the incredible team at OpenAI to build AI-powered experiences at scale for people and businesses is a rare and meaningful opportunity,” Raji wrote on LinkedIn. “Doing that with the help of tools we built at Statsig makes it even more special.”
OpenAI confirmed that Statsig will continue operating independently from its Seattle office while serving its customers. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and other standard closing conditions.
Fidji Simo said, “Vijaye has a remarkable record of building new consumer and B2B products and systems at scale,” noting that his expertise will strengthen OpenAI’s applications strategy.
This is the latest in a series of acquisitions by OpenAI. In May, it purchased Jony Ive’s AI devices startup IO for around 6.5 billion dollars in an all-equity deal, marking its entry into hardware. Earlier, OpenAI acquired analytics database company Rockset in 2024, and although it had planned to acquire AI-assisted coding tool Windsurf for 3 billion dollars, the deal did not go through, with Google instead securing a licensing agreement with Windsurf’s co-founder.
Reflecting on the acquisition, Raji stated, “The journey with Statsig has been deeply gratifying, leading me to this moment and giving me conviction that we will continue helping teams ship better software every day.”
