Odisha CM Announces 2 Percent Hike in DA for PSU Employees, Effective January 1

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees of state-run Public Sector Undertakings. The DA has been raised from 53 percent to 55 percent of the basic salary, benefiting approximately 8.5 lakh employees and pensioners, including those working in PSUs.

The increased DA will be disbursed in cash along with salaries, including any back pay for previous months, and will be effective retrospectively from January 1. The decision aims to help employees cope with rising prices of goods and services, reducing the financial burden and enhancing their purchasing power.

In addition, Odisha government pensioners will receive a 2 percent increase in Dearness Relief, also known as a temporary increase. This move benefits thousands of pensioners and their families. Employee and pensioner associations have welcomed the announcement, calling it a positive step toward financial security.

Dearness Allowance is an additional payment provided to government employees, public sector employees, and pensioners to offset the impact of inflation. It is calculated as a percentage of basic salary or pension. For example, if a government employee has a basic salary of ₹40,000, the DA at 55 percent would be ₹22,000, bringing the total salary to ₹62,000.

DA is revised periodically, usually every six months or annually, based on changes in inflation, with the primary goal of maintaining the purchasing power of employees and pensioners to manage everyday expenses.
