Nxtra by Airtel, one of India’s leading data center companies, and AMPIN Energy Transition have significantly expanded their partnership, with a new power-wheeling agreement for 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy. This latest agreement, utilizing Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connected plants, brings the total renewable energy collaboration between the two companies to over 200 MW.
This expanded capacity will be delivered to Nxtra in two distinct phases. Each phase will involve captive solar-wind power projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka, respectively. This diversified approach to sourcing renewable energy underscores Nxtra’s commitment to sustainable data center operations.
AMPIN Energy Transition has been a long-standing partner, previously supplying solar power to Nxtra through intra-state, open access agreements in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The new agreement further solidifies this relationship and broadens the geographical scope of their green energy initiatives.
“Our expanded partnership with AMPIN Energy Transition for over 200 MW of renewable energy is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our Net Zero targets,” stated Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel. “Powering our digital infrastructure with such a significant amount of clean energy sets new industry standards and reinforces our leadership in India’s green data center space.”
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD and CEO, AMPIN Energy Transition, said “With this partnership, we demonstrate that through a seamless blend of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy solutions backed by a pan-India presence, we can take any customer through a nearly 100% energy transition. Nxtra by Airtel, a leader in the data and fast-growing data centre space shares our vision for sustainability and we are proud to make data centres green by this association.”
This strategic alliance is a crucial step towards Nxtra by Airtel’s ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2031 and supports India’s broader renewable energy targets. The use of hybrid solar-wind projects and ISTS connectivity ensures a reliable and efficient supply of green power for Nxtra’s growing data center network.
