Nothing has begun releasing Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 for its users in India. The company said on Friday that the updated operating system offers a more refined and connected experience, with a stronger focus on intelligent and AI driven creation tools through its Essential Apps.
The rollout will begin with Phone 3 users and later expand to other Nothing and CMF devices. Phone 3 users will receive new features such as deeper Flip to Glyph controls, an improved Pocket Mode, and new Glyph Toys including Hourglass and Lunar Cycle. Glyph Mirror Selfie now allows users to save the original photo as an extra image in the Gallery.
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces live updates through the Glyph interface, which displays real time information such as rides, deliveries, and timers directly on the phone screen and the Glyph Interface. The company said, “The apps that supports Android 16’s live updates feature will now start supporting Nothing’s Glyph Progress feature.”
The update brings a more polished extra dark mode that now extends to first party apps like Essential Space and Launcher, with broader integration planned.
The system has also been designed to feel smoother in use. Touches, swipes, and gestures now respond with greater depth. Users will feel subtle haptic feedback when volume reaches its maximum or minimum level. The home screen background also scales gently to create a sense of depth.
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces new 1 by 1 and 2 by 1 layouts for Weather, Pedometer and Screen Time. Users can now open two floating apps at the same time and switch between them with simple gestures. Swiping up minimises them, while pulling down expands them to full screen. Users can also hide apps from the App Drawer and access them with a single swipe.
Essential Apps now sit inside the new Widget Drawer, which brings all key tools into one organised view.
