Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates Cyient AI skill hub to create future ready rural workforce

A new chapter in rural skill development began with the launch of an advanced training centre focused on artificial intelligence and digital tools in Pedamynavanilanka.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the AI powered Skill Hub at Pedamynavanilanka along with Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Payyavula Kesav, Nimmala Ramanaidu, PVN Madhav, and others. The initiative has been supported by the Cyient Foundation. Describing the centre as a model for rural transformation, she said, “PMLanka is not a remote village now. It is recognized as a main centre for AI powered skill training.”

The hub has been designed as an AI based rural skill and livelihood centre. It offers smart classrooms, drone training facilities, a 40 system computer lab, AI tools, and structured learning systems aimed at building future ready skills among rural youth. Highlighting the collaborative approach behind the project, Sitharaman said, “It operates on the premise of how government infrastructure can be leveraged through CSR partnerships to create scalable, inclusive development models.”

The Founder Chairman of Cyient, BVR Mohan Reddy, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to enabling rural communities to actively participate in India’s digital and AI driven growth. He stressed that such initiatives are essential to ensure that technological progress reaches villages and creates sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Interacting with local residents, Sitharaman spoke about her bond with the village and its people, saying, “I have not adopted the village; rather, the people of the village have adopted me.” During the event, she distributed computers to students and highlighted the importance of learning, stating, “Education is the only way to develop a nation. India is gaining more recognition for its best education.”

The AI powered Skill Hub is expected to play a key role in expanding access to modern education and technology driven skills in rural areas, while setting an example for similar initiatives across the country.
