Zerodha co founder and billionaire investor Nikhil Kamath has purchased a five percent stake in D’yavol Spirits, the premium liquor business founded by actor Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan. This marks Kamath’s growing interest in India’s alcoholic beverages sector, following his earlier investment in Radico Khaitan, the country’s fourth largest liquor company.
Kamath currently holds a 1.7 percent stake in Radico, valued at around Rs 660 crore, which he has referred to as a “miniature partner” in the company and a “great investment.” Radico, led by managing director Abhishek Khaitan, has acquired 47.5 percent of D’yavol for Rs 40 crore, making it the largest shareholder.
The remaining 47.5 percent of D’yavol is held by the Khans along with their friends Harprit Singh and Leti Blagoeva. The founders entered the premium spirits distribution business in 2022, introducing D’yavol single estate vodka, Inception blended malt scotch whisky, and Vortex scotch whisky. The brand is now preparing to launch D’yavol Anejo tequila in India.
Commenting on the tequila launch, Abhishek Khaitan said, “Radico had no plans to enter tequila. But when conversations happened with Shah Rukh… and when we saw the product created by them, we decided to partner with them.”
