The Navi Mumbai International Airport has moved closer to opening its doors after completing a large scale passenger simulation test on November twenty nine and thirty. The successful trial sets the stage for the airport to begin commercial flights from December twenty five.
Airport authorities said hundreds of volunteers participated as mock passengers to test all essential airport processes. The exercise examined check in counters, security checks, boarding procedures, arrival formalities and baggage claim systems. Airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express were part of the trial to help validate real world workflows.
The airport was inaugurated on October eight and is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 19,650 crore. Once fully operational, it is expected to become one of India’s largest greenfield airports and ease pressure on Mumbai’s busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
In a post on X, the airport authority wrote, “As we prepare to begin flights from December 25, we look forward to welcoming you all soon. Our ORAT team has successfully completed the first passenger trial with hundreds of simulated passengers. Every step from check in and security to boarding and baggage reclaim was flawlessly tested. Heartfelt thanks to our ‘first passengers’, CISF, L&T, airline partners and the entire NMIAL team.”
For residents of Navi Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the airport’s upcoming operational launch marks a significant milestone. The first commercial flight from the new aviation hub is expected to take off on December twenty five.
