During his official visit to Australia, Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Electronics and Education Nara Lokesh held a high-level meeting with Bijal Sejpal, Chief Operating Officer of Bupa Asia Pacific, and Dinesh Kanteti, Head of Enterprise Intelligence. In the meeting, Lokesh invited Bupa to explore the possibility of establishing a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam. He highlighted the city’s rapid growth as a hub for IT, data centres and digital innovation.
Lokesh also encouraged Bupa to collaborate with the Andhra Pradesh government to strengthen rural digital healthcare infrastructure across the state. He emphasised that healthcare technology is a key pillar of the government’s inclusive development strategy aimed at improving accessibility and efficiency.
Positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global investment hub, Lokesh stated that the state is fast emerging as one of India’s most dynamic business destinations. He outlined its strong foundation built on world-class infrastructure along coastal and technology corridors, a highly skilled workforce and progressive policies that promote foreign investment and innovation. He further noted that Visakhapatnam is becoming a preferred destination for global capability centres due to its robust IT ecosystem and increasing participation from global enterprises in healthcare, fintech and analytics.
Responding to the proposal, Bupa Asia Pacific COO Bijal Sejpal praised Andhra Pradesh’s forward-looking approach and expressed keen interest in exploring collaboration opportunities. Sejpal shared that Bupa, headquartered in London, serves over 38 million customers across 190 countries and operates in health insurance, digital health solutions and senior care homes in the UK, Australia and Spain. She mentioned that Bupa already has a strong presence in Australia, Hong Kong and other emerging markets and confirmed that the company would evaluate the GCC proposal positively through its senior leadership team.
This meeting marked another milestone in Nara Lokesh’s Australia tour, which focuses on attracting global investments, academic collaborations and technology partnerships to accelerate Andhra Pradesh’s transformation into a hub for IT, healthcare innovation and digital excellence.
