Mumbai Metro Route 9 Trial Begins: A New Dawn for City Commute and Seamless Travel

In a major boost to Mumbai’s urban infrastructure, the much-anticipated Phase 1 trial run of Metro Route 9 between Kashigaon and Dahisar has officially begun, bringing a sigh of relief to countless daily travellers. The new line, a key piece in Mumbai’s expanding metro puzzle, promises smoother and faster journeys while easing the burden on the Western Express Highway.

During his visit to Kashigaon, Maharashtra’s Deputy Leader Devendra Fadnavis spoke passionately about the state’s rapid transformation. “All three parties are together and we are running the state’s development express in a speedy manner. No one can put a speed-breaker in it. If they want to give a booster, it is a different thing,” he said, reaffirming his government’s united focus on progress.

He called the metro the finest tool for urban mobility and shared that the goal is to ensure uninterrupted travel across the city. With metro lines already linking various pockets like Andheri, the new stretch will form a vital link, seamlessly connecting areas along the busy Western Express corridor, from NS Bose Maidan to Bandra.

An architectural marvel is also part of this Mumbai metro vision. For the first time in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, a double-decker bridge is under construction. This unique concept will help ease congestion in traffic-heavy zones like Mira Bhayandar, marking a fresh chapter in smart urban planning.

Fadnavis also spoke of bigger plans ahead, including metro links reaching Virar, and highlighted the need for integrated transit networks to enable effortless, end-to-end journeys for Mumbaikars. Applauding the role of the regional development authority, he declared an ambitious target of constructing 50 kilometres this year and another 62 kilometres next year.

He confidently stated that the full metro network, which began its journey in 2015, is on track to be completed by the end of 2027. “The major network which we started will be completed by the end of 2027. This is our aim, due to which people in Mumbai and the MMR will be most benefited for travel,” he noted.

Plans are also underway for a bullet train hub near Vadhvan in Palghar, with integration work already being mapped out.
