Mozilla introduces AI Window in Firefox with an optional built in AI assistant

Mozilla has announced a new AI powered feature for Firefox called AI Window, offering users a dedicated space to interact with an AI assistant while browsing. The company describes this as an opt in, intelligent and user controlled experience that is being developed openly with user feedback.

The update positions Firefox as a browser that provides choice in how much AI support users want. Earlier in September, Mozilla launched a shake to summarize feature on iPhones that uses AI to create quick summaries of webpages. The company has framed its approach as one that respects user control and privacy.

In a post on its company blog, Mozilla wrote, “While others are building AI experiences that keep you locked in a conversational loop, we see a different path — one where AI serves as a trusted companion, enhancing your browsing experience and guiding you outward to the broader web.”

AI Window will be offered as one of three browsing modes, alongside the existing private and classic windows. Mozilla said users will be able to choose which AI model they want to use in the AI Window, though additional details have not yet been shared.

The feature is part of Mozilla’s broader effort to build AI tools that assist rather than confine users. Those interested in receiving more information or early access can join Mozilla’s waitlist through its community platform.
