Mohamed Abdallah Elevated to Lead Vodacom’s International Markets and Vodafone Egypt

Wishing Mr. Mohamed Abdallah greater responsibilities and exciting challenges in this impressive new chapter!

Vodacom Group has named Mohamed Abdallah as the new Chief Executive Officer overseeing both Vodacom’s International Markets and Vodafone Egypt. This significant leadership appointment aligns with Vodacom’s Vision 2030, aiming to streamline operations, fuel strategic growth, and enrich customer experiences across the continent.

Previously the CEO of Vodafone Egypt, Abdallah now takes on a broader mantle, steering operations not only in Egypt but also in key African markets such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania. This unified leadership approach seeks to enhance operational efficiency and drive Vodacom Group’s strategic goals more effectively across these regions.

Abdallah’s journey with Vodafone Egypt began in 1998, where he climbed the ranks through important roles including Enterprise Business Director and Consumer Business Director. During his tenure as CEO, he propelled remarkable growth in Consumer, Business, and Financial Services sectors, reinforcing Vodafone Egypt’s position as a market leader.

He succeeds Diego Gutierrez, who concluded a seven-year leadership term in April as Chief Officer of International Business. Gutierrez’s tenure was marked by steady performance and successful navigation of complex market transitions within Vodacom’s International Markets.

Under the new structure, the heads of Vodacom’s markets in the DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania will report directly to Abdallah, who will continue to answer to Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub.

Shameel Joosub expressed confidence in the new appointment, saying, “Mohamed is a seasoned executive with a proven track record in delivering strong commercial results. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to scale our international portfolio and embed our purpose-led strategy across the continent. We are confident that under Mohamed’s expanded leadership, our International Markets will continue to thrive and deliver outstanding results. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Diego for his invaluable contributions over the last seven years. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Mohamed Abdallah shared his vision, stating, “Taking on this new role is a privilege, as I am passionate about driving connectivity and innovation to empower individuals and businesses across Africa. Vodafone Group is uniquely positioned to shape Africa’s digital future, and together with the incredible teams at Vodacom Group, we will work to build a more digitally inclusive future that uplifts communities and accelerates socio-economic development within the Africa region.”
