Microsoft is adding a playful new use of artificial intelligence to one of its oldest apps. A fresh update to Microsoft Paint now allows users to create coloring book pages using simple text prompts, bringing generative AI to a familiar creative tool.
The new feature is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders and lets users type a short description to generate black and white coloring pages. One example shared by the company is “a cute fluffy cat on a donut”. The tool produces multiple variations from the same prompt, allowing users to pick their preferred image. The selected image can then be added to the canvas, saved, copied, or printed, making it useful for casual creativity or keeping children entertained.
This AI powered coloring book option is limited to Copilot+ PCs. Alongside it, Microsoft is also introducing a new fill tolerance slider in Paint. This slider allows users to control how precisely the Fill tool applies color, offering better accuracy when working with detailed drawings. These updates aim to modernize Paint while keeping it simple and accessible for everyday users.
Beyond Paint, Microsoft is also upgrading AI features in Notepad. The Write, Rewrite, and Summarize tools now work more smoothly with GPT to help users refine text and summarize complex notes. To use these cloud based features, users must sign in with a Microsoft account. The improved system delivers faster results and allows interaction with previews before the full response is ready. For now, all these updates are available only to Windows 11 Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels.
