An employee disrupted Microsoft’s 50th anniversary party by calling the firm a “war profiteer.” The Verge said that Ibtihal Aboussad interrupted Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, during his address. Now, according to the story, Aboussad has been fired.
“Earlier today, you interrupted a speech by Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman during the Company’s 50th anniversary event in Redmond, Seattle, by yelling and finger-pointing at the CEO before a live audience of thousands of attendees, and making hostile, unprovoked, and highly inappropriate accusations against the CEO, the Company and Microsoft generally,” Company told Aboussad in an email. The business also claimed that he acted aggressively. Microsoft Canada was where Aboussad was employed.
Company told Aboussad that it is “also concerning that you have not apologized to the company, and in fact you have shown no remorse for the effect that your actions have had and will have.”
Aboussad yelled at the Microsoft AI CEO at the occasion while Suleyman was speaking to the crowd. “Shame on you. You are a war profiteer. Stop using AI for genocide. Stop using AI for genocide in our region. You have blood on your hands. All of Microsoft has blood on its hands. How dare you all celebrate when Microsoft is killing children. Shame on you all.”
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was participating in a panel discussion with Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates when Vaniya Agrawal, another Microsoft employee, interrupted the session. Agrawal had submitted his resignation two days before to the April 4 incident. She was also fired by Company during her two weeks of notice, though.
