Microsoft has rolled out an experimental new “CoPilot mode” in its Edge web browser, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver a more efficient and personalized browsing experience. This feature is being offered for free for a limited time, allowing users to explore its advanced capabilities.
The CoPilot mode is designed to understand user context across open tabs, providing tailored suggestions and enabling quicker comparisons of information. A key highlight is its support for voice navigation, empowering users to interact with CoPilot directly through spoken commands for tasks such as finding information or opening new tabs.
Microsoft’s future plans for CoPilot include integrating access to browsing history (with user permission), which will allow the AI to perform actions on the user’s behalf, such as making reservations or checking weather forecasts. This aims to transform the browser into a more proactive and intelligent assistant.
CoPilot appears in a convenient side pane within the Edge browser, ensuring that users can interact with the AI without losing their place on the current webpage. Microsoft has also emphasized user privacy, providing clear indicators when CoPilot mode is active and offering users the flexibility to turn it on or off at any time.
This initiative underscores Microsoft’s commitment to embedding AI seamlessly into its core products, enhancing productivity and user experience in the digital realm.
