OpenAI launched its ChatGPT Atlas browser earlier this week. Microsoft is now making a strong move with its own AI push in this space. The company already has the Edge browser and is now offering Copilot Mode that brings new AI features and agentic AI powers.
Microsoft wants people to have more options beyond Comet, Atlas, and the AI powered Chrome version from Google. Almost every company wants an AI browser for users and Microsoft was expected to join the competition.
So what can Microsoft offer in Edge that will encourage users to switch. The agentic AI features allow Copilot to take actions like helping you unsubscribe from emails or booking a reservation at the fanciest hotels. These tools are being rolled out slowly and are part of a limited preview version that is available only in the United States.
Copilot Actions also respond to user commands and are claimed to work in a reliable way. Microsoft has clearly stated that AI tools can make mistakes, and users should manage their expectations.
There is also a memory feature that remembers what users did in the last session and continues based on those activities. Microsoft calls this Copilot Journeys. It focuses on the experience and use of the AI features and Copilot Mode on a Windows 11 PC.
Search is also receiving major AI improvements and works in a similar way to the AI mode in Google Search that is widely available. Microsoft understands that millions of Windows 10 users want strong reasons to upgrade to Windows 11 or maybe even consider switching to another platform. These new Copilot Mode tools could play an important role in that decision since users now have choices like ChatGPT Atlas and Comet from Perplexity.
