The growing demand for artificial intelligence hardware is pushing semiconductor companies to increase production capacity. Micron Technology has announced plans to establish a second chip manufacturing facility in Taiwan at the Tongluo site it recently acquired.
The company confirmed that it has completed the acquisition of the Tongluo P5 facility from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.. The newly planned factory will be built at the same location and will help expand the supply of advanced DRAM memory products.
According to the company, the new manufacturing plant will focus on producing next-generation DRAM technologies, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM). These chips play a critical role in powering artificial intelligence systems and high-performance computing applications.
The upcoming facility is expected to be similar in scale to Micron’s existing fabrication plant located in Miaoli County. By expanding production at the Tongluo site, the company aims to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and support the rising global demand for AI-driven technologies.
Micron said construction of the second facility is scheduled to begin by the end of fiscal 2026.
The expansion reflects the broader push by semiconductor manufacturers to increase output of advanced memory chips as AI applications continue to grow across industries.
