Meta partners with Arm to expand AI infrastructure and efficiency

Meta has partnered with semiconductor company Arm to boost its AI systems amid a major expansion of infrastructure. As part of the collaboration, Meta’s ranking and recommendation systems will move to Arm’s Neoverse platform, which is optimized for cloud-based AI and other advanced applications.

“AI is transforming how people connect and create,” said Santosh Janardhan, Meta’s head of infrastructure. “Partnering with Arm enables us to efficiently scale that innovation to the more than 3 billion people who use Meta’s apps and technologies.”

Arm, best known for its mobile CPU designs, has focused on GPUs in recent years, emphasizing low-power efficiency for AI deployments. “AI’s next era will be defined by delivering efficiency at scale,” said Rene Haas, Arm’s CEO. “Partnering with Meta, we’re uniting Arm’s performance-per-watt leadership with Meta’s AI innovation.”

The multi-year partnership comes as Meta invests heavily in expanding its data center network to meet growing AI demand. One project, code-named Prometheus, is expected to deliver multiple gigawatts of power by 2027. Construction is underway in New Albany, Ohio, along with a 200-megawatt natural gas facility to supply the project.

Meta is also developing a massive data center campus, Hyperion, across 2,250 acres in northwest Louisiana. Once complete, Hyperion is expected to provide 5 gigawatts of computational power. Portions of the campus may come online before 2030, while construction continues through that year.

Unlike some recent AI infrastructure deals, Arm and Meta are not exchanging ownership stakes or physical infrastructure. This differs from Nvidia, which has committed $100 billion in phased investments to OpenAI, as well as funding Elon Musk’s xAI, Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab, and French AI lab Mistral. AMD, another competitor, recently agreed to supply OpenAI with 6 gigawatts of compute capacity and offered stock options worth up to 10 percent of the company.

The Meta-Arm partnership highlights the growing focus on energy-efficient AI solutions and the importance of scalable, low-power computing as AI adoption expands globally.
