Meta launches Ray-Ban smart glasses designed for prescription users with AI features

Expanding its wearable technology lineup, a leading tech company has introduced a new range of AI-powered smart glasses focused on prescription users, marking a shift towards more personalised everyday wear.

The newly launched Ray-Ban Meta Optics Styles include Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics (Gen 2). Developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, these models continue the companies’ long-term collaboration, following earlier releases such as Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Oakley Meta Glasses, and Meta Ray-Ban Display models.

Price and availability
The new smart glasses are priced at $499 (approx. Rs. 41,500). Pre-orders begin on March 31 in the US, with sales starting April 14 via Ray-Ban stores, the official website, and select retail outlets like LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut. The lineup will also be available in markets including the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, and the UAE, with expansion to Brazil, Mexico, and India expected later this year.

Features and specifications
The glasses are designed for comfort and customisation. They feature a slimmer frame, interchangeable nose pads, overextension hinges with an extra 10-degree rotation, and adjustable temple tips.

Both models support multiple lens types, including single-vision, progressive, and Transitions lenses, allowing easy use across indoor and outdoor environments.

In terms of performance, the glasses include a 12MP camera capable of capturing photos and recording 3K videos. A six-microphone system enhances audio quality for calls and recordings. Users can listen to music and podcasts on platforms like Spotify and Amazon Music, make calls, send messages, and interact with Meta AI using voice commands.

A dedicated action button enables quick access to AI features, content capture, and shortcuts. The AI assistant can understand context and assist users based on what they see.

Additional updates
New colour options such as Shiny Transparent Grey (Wayfarer), Shiny Transparent Peach (Skyler), and Matte Transparent Peach (Headliner) are being introduced. Oakley Meta models are also getting updated colour and lens combinations, including Prizm Transitions lenses.

Upcoming AI features
The company is planning new AI updates, including nutrition tracking via voice or photos, hands-free WhatsApp summaries, and features like Neural Handwriting and display recording. It is also expanding pedestrian navigation with turn-by-turn directions in the user’s field of view.

These features will roll out to various smart glasses models in the coming months.
