Meta has introduced a new video editing tool powered by generative AI within its Meta AI app, allowing users to stylize short videos with various preset prompts. The company states that these prompts enable Meta AI to alter aspects like outfits, backgrounds, and overall visual aesthetics. This feature is also part of Meta’s Edits app.
Currently, Meta AI’s video editing capability is available in select regions, including the US, with plans for broader availability soon. The company mentioned that the tool supports video clips of up to 10 seconds in length and is being offered for free for a limited period.
Meta characterized the AI-driven video editor as user-friendly and straightforward, requiring no previous video editing experience. Users can upload a clip to the Meta AI app, the Meta AI website, or the Edits app, and then select from over 50 preset prompts. After making a choice, Meta AI automatically adjusts the video according to the selected theme.
Examples provided by Meta include transforming clips into a “graphic novel” style, converting subjects into vintage comic illustrations, changing dreary weather footage to create a dreamy look, or turning scenes into a video game setting complete with neon effects and battle gear.
Videos edited using the Meta AI or Edits apps can be shared directly on Facebook and Instagram. Furthermore, the Meta AI app and Meta.AI website facilitate sharing to Meta AI’s Discover Feed.
This feature is based on Meta’s Movie Gen models and was developed in collaboration with creators to pinpoint prompts that resonate with their audiences. While only preset prompts are currently available, Meta indicated that custom text prompts will be introduced in a future update.
