Mercado Libre to introduce Digit humanoid robots in its logistics operations

Mercado Libre has entered into an agreement with Agility Robotics to deploy Digit, the humanoid robot, at its fulfilment centre in San Antonio, Texas. The company also plans to expand the use of these robots across more warehouses in Latin America as both teams begin with commerce support tasks and examine how humanoid systems can work within existing operations.

The partnership is designed to address labour gaps, automate repetitive work and improve overall workplace ergonomics. Both companies will study how Digit can support logistics processes and help employees move into more value focused roles. With this move, Mercado Libre joins other organisations using Agility Robotics systems, including GXO, Schaeffler and Amazon.

Agustin Costa, senior VP of shipping at Mercado Libre, said, “At Mercado Libre, we are constantly exploring how emerging technologies can elevate our operations and improve the experience for our employees and millions of users.”

At the Texas site, Digit will walk through warehouse aisles and move materials by lifting and carrying totes. Agility Robotics said the robot can fit into standard layouts without major adjustments. The company also shared that Digit has already handled more than 100,000 totes in live operations. Costa added that this rollout is a step toward building a “safer, more efficient, and adaptable logistics network.”

Daniel Diez, chief business officer at Agility Robotics, said the company is “excited to partner with them [Mercado Libre] to integrate our autonomous humanoid robots capable of performing meaningful work and delivering real value into their facilities.”

Agility stated that Digit can take on high turnover roles and support continuous warehouse workflows. The robot uses AI to learn new tasks and adjust to different processes. It operates through Agility ARC, the company’s cloud platform that manages robot fleets and assigns tasks within enterprise systems.
