MediaTek unveils Dimensity 9500s flagship chipset and Dimensity 8500 mid range processor

MediaTek has announced two new mobile chipsets, the Dimensity 9500s and the Dimensity 8500. The company revealed both processors on Thursday, positioning the Dimensity 9500s as a flagship level offering and the Dimensity 8500 as a powerful mid range option. According to MediaTek, both chipsets support global mainstream large language models and image generation models through a dedicated neural processing unit.

The Dimensity 9500s is built using a 3nm fabrication process and follows the same All Big Core design as the company flagship Dimensity 9500. It features one Arm Cortex X925 Ultra core clocked at 3.73GHz, three Cortex X4 cores, and four Cortex A720 cores. The chipset is paired with an Immortalis G925 GPU, which supports adaptive game technology 3.0, frame technology 3.0, and advanced ray tracing.

MediaTek claims the Dimensity 9500s includes a powerful NPU with generative AI and agentic AI features. It also comes with the MediaTek Imagiq image processor, enabling 8K 60 fps full focus video recording with Dolby Vision HDR and real time motion tracking. Devices running on this chip can support WQHD plus displays with refresh rates up to 180Hz and camera sensors up to 320 megapixels.

The chipset supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Connectivity options include Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual SIM 5G, 4G LTE, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, NavIC, and QZSS. It also uses MediaTek UltraSave 4.0 technology for better battery efficiency. The specifications are similar to the Dimensity 9400 Plus processor launched in April 2025, and it is expected to compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

The Dimensity 8500 is designed for the mid range segment. It uses a 4nm process and features eight Cortex A725 cores clocked up to 3.4GHz. It comes with a Mali G720 GPU, which is said to deliver 25 percent better performance and 20 percent lower power use compared to the previous model.

MediaTek says this chip supports 4K 60 fps video recording and camera sensors up to 320 megapixels. It can power WQHD plus displays with refresh rates up to 144Hz. It also includes the eighth generation MediaTek NPU 880 for AI based language and image generation. For connectivity, it supports Wi Fi 6E and the same options as the Dimensity 9500s.
