Former World Economic Forum (WEF) MD Claude Smadja said that India is at a turning point, set to accelerate technological innovation and maybe produce the next major surprise in the world because of its particular advantage in data and big data.
India is positioned to become a worldwide leader in AI and deep tech domains that primarily depend on access to large datasets because of its unmatched capability for data gathering and use, according to Smadja.
“India is at an inflection point. India is, at the moment, in its domestic evolution, and in the global context, where it has to give a big push to accelerate the momentum for technological innovation.
The next big surprise could come from India in the domain of data and big data because India has a unique superiority advantage in terms of data collection and data potential leveraging,” Smadja said at IGIC 2025 here.
Comparing India to major global economies, Smadja, Chairman of Smadja & Smadja Strategic Advisory, said the US is losing ground and its significance is being undermined in every way. However, he pointed out that China has surmounted its structural obstacles to gain greater strength.
In light of this, Smadja declared that India’s time had come.
Based on his 53 years of experience with India, Smadja characterized the nation’s path as a “roller coaster” of optimism and disappointments, frequently diverted from economic progress by diversions. He asserted that India has to take advantage of this crucial moment to quicken its technical advancement and overtake world leaders.
According to Smadja, India must quicken the pace of the technology catch-up process because the time and circumstances are right for it to try to establish leadership goals in a certain technological field and to establish its position as the new global center for entrepreneurship and technological innovation.
Global industry executives from the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany, Singapore, Israel, Switzerland, France, and the United Arab Emirates are among those scheduled to attend the 4th edition of India Global Innovation Connect (IGIC), which will take place in Bengaluru from June 4-5, 2025.
