Maruti Suzuki to launch first electric SUV e Vitara in India on December 2, 2025

Maruti Suzuki India has announced the launch of its first battery electric vehicle, the e Vitara, on December 2, 2025, marking the company’s entry into the country’s passenger EV segment. The model is already in production and is being exported to several international markets.

Built on Suzuki’s new Heartect e architecture, a dedicated battery electric platform, the e Vitara will be offered with two battery options — 49kWh and 61kWh. The larger pack is expected to deliver a driving range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge. The electric SUV will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealership network across India.

Developed as a global model manufactured exclusively in India, production of the e Vitara takes place at the company’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, which also acts as an export hub. Exports to Europe began in August 2025, reaching markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium. The company plans to expand sales to over 100 markets, including Japan.

In terms of design, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara follows Nexa’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ philosophy, featuring aerodynamic lines, polyhedral surfaces and bold proportions. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps and a sculpted front fascia. The interior includes a dual-screen layout, with a 10.1-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting, and a floating twin-deck console.

The SUV is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor generating up to 128kW of power and 192.5Nm of torque. It offers multiple driving modes — Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow — with regenerative braking that enables one-pedal driving. Features such as adaptive grille shutters and a thermal management system ensure performance efficiency across temperatures ranging from minus 30°C to 60°C.

The e Vitara’s structure includes over 50% advanced high-tensile steel and comes equipped with seven airbags, all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, a tyre pressure monitoring system, Level 2 ADAS, and a reinforced battery protection frame.

Maruti Suzuki is also setting up a dedicated EV ecosystem to support the rollout, including home-charging options, DC fast chargers at Nexa outlets, and over 1,500 EV-enabled service centres across 1,000 cities. Customers will be able to manage charging and payments through the ‘e for me’ app.

In India, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will compete with the Tata Curvv.ev, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, VinFast VF6 and Mahindra BE 6 in the mid-size electric SUV category. The expected starting price is around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
