India’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), has taken a significant leap forward in its renewable energy journey by expanding its solar power capacity by 30 megawatts peak (MWp). The company now sets its sights on an ambitious target of 319 MWp of solar energy capacity by the fiscal year 2030-31, supported by a hefty investment exceeding ₹925 crore.
This renewable energy push includes the commissioning of a 20 MWp solar project at their new Kharkhoda plant in Haryana and an additional 10 MWp capacity added at the Manesar facility. With these additions, Maruti Suzuki’s overall solar power portfolio has surged from 49 MWp to 79 MWp within just one year.
Furthering its green energy commitments, Maruti Suzuki India is also increasing the proportion of electricity it sources from renewable-rich State Electricity Boards to power its manufacturing operations.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, expressed the company’s dedication to sustainability, saying, “Aligned with our parent Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and India’s focus on renewable energy, we are steadily scaling up renewable energy use in our operations. By FY2030-31, our goal is to reach 319 MWp solar capacity, backed by an investment of over ₹925 crore.”
He emphasized the environmental benefits of this expansion, noting, “As we aim to produce four million vehicles annually, we are committed to integrating ambitious sustainable energy practices to match this growth. Our solar power expansion is a vital step toward a cleaner energy future and supports the creation of a sustainable ecosystem.”
MSIL expects that by the end of FY2030-31, nearly 85% of its total electricity consumption will come from renewable sources. The company is actively embedding green manufacturing processes across all its facilities as part of this eco-conscious transformation.
In an era where environmental stewardship is crucial, Maruti Suzuki’s bold investment in solar power highlights the company’s role as a pioneer, leading India’s automotive industry towards a greener tomorrow.
