Marriott International has announced that it will set up its first global capability centre in India. The facility called the Marriott Tech Accelerator will come up in Hyderabad and will support the company’s operations across 141 countries and territories. The centre will work on technology, engineering, cybersecurity, and future digital solutions for the hospitality group.
This will be the first global capability centre by a hospitality company in India. Marriott centre is expected to become fully operational by the first quarter of 2025. As per state officials, Marriott will hire around 300 professionals in the initial phase of the project.
Drew Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue and Technology Officer of Marriott International, said that Hyderabad was selected because of its strong talent base and reputation as a major information technology centre. The decision further highlights Hyderabad’s growing role as a preferred destination for global capability centres. The city is already home to more than 200 such centres across different industries.
The Telangana Information Technology Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu stated that the state has a large pool of skilled professionals. This includes over one million people ready to work in global capability roles and around 350000 experts in artificial intelligence and chip design. These strengths have been drawing international companies to the region.
Industry reports show that Hyderabad and Bengaluru together accounted for nearly half of India’s total technology sector office leasing in the first half of 2025. Hyderabad alone contributed close to 21 percent. The new centre aligns with the state’s aim to grow as a global hub for artificial intelligence, data science, and the internet of things. The state expects over 70 more global capability centres to be set up in the current financial year.
For Marriott, the Hyderabad centre marks an important step in its 25 year journey in India. The company currently operates more than 150 hotels across the country and plans to expand from about 29000 rooms to more than 42000 rooms in the coming years.
Industry experts see this move as a sign that the hospitality sector is increasingly adopting India’s technology capabilities not only for cost benefits but also to support innovation at a global level.
