Manulife Appoints Steve Finch as New CEO for Asia, Succeeding Phil Witherington

In a pivotal move signaling its unwavering commitment to growth, Manulife has announced the appointment of Steve Finch as the new President and CEO for its Asia operations, effective May 9, 2025. Finch will take over from Phil Witherington, who transitions into the global President and CEO role at Manulife.

Steve Finch, a stalwart at Manulife with a career spanning over three decades, is a seasoned leader. Having been the company’s Chief Actuary since 2016, Finch brings a wealth of expertise to the table. His tenure at Manulife has seen him serve in multiple influential roles, including Chief Financial Officer at John Hancock, Manulife’s U.S. arm, and General Manager for its life insurance operations in the U.S.

Roy Gori, the current President and CEO of Manulife, expressed his confidence in Finch’s ability to lead the company’s growth in Asia. “Asia remains a critical growth engine for Manulife, and Steve’s deep commercial and functional understanding of our business, combined with his strong product knowledge and expertise in distribution across the region, makes him an ideal choice to accelerate our ambitious agenda,” Gori remarked.

This leadership transition marks a significant step in Manulife’s long-term strategy to expand its presence across Asia. The region continues to be a cornerstone of the company’s future success, driving innovation and growth opportunities.

As Finch assumes his new role, Manulife also announced that a successor for the Chief Actuary position will be revealed soon. The transition process is expected to be seamless, with Finch collaborating closely with the new Chief Actuary to ensure continuity and stability.

In this new chapter, Manulife’s future in Asia looks bright, with Finch’s vast experience positioning him as the ideal leader to guide the company through the next phase of its ambitious expansion plans.
